Hi everyone. I am Sarah Hall and my husband Kenny and I are asking for help for our nephew Nick Aceto. Nick was not feeling well and asked me to take him to the hospital Monday. In a very short amount of time he went from sitting upright and talking to going into full cardiac arrest. Nick has a thyroid condition that caused his body to go into what is called a “thyroid storm”. It is a medical emergency and he was very fortunate that he was already at the hospital. His heart stopped and they performed CPR until they were able to get him back. He was put on a ventilator because he could not breathe on his own. All of his organs shut down and the doctors told us that his heart was failing and would not be able to support him for long. The hospital that he was being treated at called a larger hospital and they sent a specialized team to evaluate him as a candidate for ECMO (bypass). The ECMO machine basically does the work of the heart and lungs for a person and allows their body to rest. Nick was able to be placed on ECMO and had to be transferred to another hospital where they have highly trained specialized staff to care for someone in his condition.

Our nephew is a single dad and he does not receive any financial assistance to raise his son. Less than 24 hours after he was admitted to the hospital on life support, he was fired from his job for missing work this week. He does not have insurance and his medical bills will be astronomical. That is not what we are asking for help with - We don’t want Nick to lose his house where he and his 11 year old son live. While he’s hospitalized and not working, he will not be able to pay his rent or any of his utilities. We are asking people to consider donating to this cause so that Nick and Jay still have their home when he is well enough to be discharged. I will update everyone as his condition changes.
