Nick and Kendra were newly married in Oct 30th 2020. They looked as if the future was bright and fulfilling as they had committed to building a bright future together. Nick had scheduled a routine doctor visit for his annual check up when the doctor had advised Nick that his lungs sounded a little raspy. So they performed a Covid Test and he was determined positive. Nick was performing his quarantine duties and had reached out to me about things he could be doing at home while on quarantine to keep himself occupied. I had called him on Friday the 8th of January to see how he was doing and how his recovery was coming along. He sounded horrible on the phone and could barley hold a conversation, but he was upbeat and positive he was going to beat it. Then that Saturday the 9th of January everyone had learned that Nick had been admitted into the Hospital and was going on a ventilator. Since that time he has had multiple episodes with the virus that has lead to life threating decisions for Kendra his wife. Nick has been under constant sedation, ventilation, medications, and treatments to fight back this virus and the infection he has been battling. Kendra has had to miss multiple days of work because she has to stand by her phone and be ready to make medical decisions when ever the doctors call due to time sensitive lifesaving treatments. There have been multiple rollercoasters in Nicks recovery. It would seem like he was coming out of it then he would regress even worse a few days later. Currently Nick is fighting a severe bout with pneumonia. Its so bad that when they attempted to insert the breathing tubes the fluid in his lungs had hardened and they have had to perform alternate procedures that require surgery to get his lungs to function. Their kids have not been able to see him, Kendra  was only allowed to see him once for about 3 hours. She has been strong for Nick and the family. Although she is scared, and has been in constant state of stress. Kendra has managed to keep things going even though she is missing a lot of work.

 

This has had a tremendous amount of stress on the kids. They are distressed since they cannot see their father due to Covid guidelines. All they can do is talk to him on the phone at allotted times and those conversations are one sided with Nick being under sedation to help his body rest and recover. Everything has moved so fast with this that they are mostly in a state of shock still to this point.

 

How this fund will help is that it will assist in the lost hours that Kendra has had to take on due to medical treatment decisions that no one wants to have to make. It will help in filling the gap financially which will help in lowering the stress level of one more thing to worry about. Nick is in a hospital which is an hour away from their place of residence. This fund will help in extra driving expenses and maintenance costs along with unscheduled costs that come along with unscheduled illnesses.
