A little over a year ago I took a trip to the ER for an terrible stomach pain I was having. They took me down the hall for a CT scan of my lower tummy. What i didn't know was the scan gets a picture of all your abdomen, pelvis, hip area ect... An hour or so later the Dr. comes in pulls up a chair and tells me i have a bout of pancreatitis. Not to worries gives me instructions on what to do and not do. He also starts talking about "my hip disease" at which time I look at him like he is a bit crazy and tell him I don't have a hip disease. He asks me if my hips ever hurt and I tell him yes they do and I inform him I have Fibromyalgia that's why my hips hurt. He proceeds to tell me no, that is not why and says I have something called Avascular Necrosis of the Hips. I kind of listened to what he said but not really, I was more worried about my Pancreas, which winded up being the least of my problems.

So what is Avascular Necrosis (AVN)? Its a condition that occurs when there is a loss of blood to the bone. Because bone is a living tissue that requires blood, an interruption to the blood supply causes bone to die, extreme pain, and possible hip collapse.
Fast forward a year. I finally decided after a year of limping in pain to go see an orthopedic surgeon, to see what was going on. Basically, after 2 xrays, MRI on both hips, they agreed I have AVN in both femoral heads of my hips. The disease is causing my femoral heads to die (so far 25%) are already dead. This will eventually continue causing both of my hip to collapse. At that point I would require total hip replacement surgery.
There is a surgery the Orthopedic surgeon thinks will help me save my hips or at the very least postpone total hip replacements, it's called, Core Decompression. It's a less invasive surgery where they go an cut a slit in your side and drill down into your femoral head where they remove the dead bone. It takes the pressure off the bone which causes me excruciating pain. It promotes new blood supply and new bone to grow.
I have put off surgery for as long as I can, the pain is getting to be, to much for to bear. My quality of life is not good at this point and as a single mom it's not fair to me or my daughter, Sage I have scheduled the CD surgery, and being so close to my total out of pocket for the year it makes since to do it before year end. If not, I have to start all over come Jan. 1st. I'm scheduled for Dec. 19, 2018, 6 days before Christmas. I will only be doing my right hip because they can only do one the hip at a time. There is NO weight bearing on that leg for at least 6 weeks and increasing weight bearing as time goes on. A total of 3 months to heal and get back to normal life, if procedure works. Being a hair dresser and a single mom with no family around I will be unable to work for awhile. My goal is to raise money to help with my surgery and cost of living expenses while I heal. I pray this all works out. I would love my life back and I know my daughter Sage would like her mommy back too. I thank you all for reading my story and any donation you can give. Please feel free to share this with your friends, family, and social media. Thank You!
