Help Nica move into a real apartment
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Nica and I'm trying desperately to move into a real apartment and have housing security.
I am a San Francisco native, and currently live in an SRO (single room occupancy, essentially "residence hotel") in Oakland, I work in San Francisco, and I have been living here for five years. It's very hard to live in a space without a proper bathroom or kitchen, where the mail frequently isn’t delivered, and spending weeks with no electricity in the outlets. (Its a slum!)(Above photo is an approximation of the space using the sims as an example.) The commute is expensive and exausting, but as a service worker I don't make enough to live closer to where I work. At least, not untill recently.
I have been on a waiting list for a chance at an affordable apartment, I had to go through a lottery to be placed on the waiting list. After years and another half a year of going through paperwork and processing I have been given a chance to move. The issue is I don't quite have enough to put down payments ontop of the rent and paying the final rent where I currently live. The funds from this would be used to help pay the deposit and movers.
I am not one to usually do this, however it’s extremely important to me to finally have a secure and proper place to live. A proper home is the most important thing a person can have, there will be no other chances so I am here asking you for help, any little bit can help.
I have until the August 12th to sign the lease and start the moving process.
Thank you.
I hate asking for help like this, but I really need to take this opportunity now. Not only for the chance to live closer to where I work and have a proper roof over my head, but also be free from slum conditions of which I am forced to currently live in. Housing which has black mold growing in the community bathrooms and on-site management that is MIA, property managers that take a week to reply to yiu about lacking electricity and another week to fix it (this happened 3 times in 2 months.) In helping me in this I will be able to feel like a real person who deserves a place in society, and not left over human waste that should be thrown into the garbage heap that is the low income trap that is SF.
Being able to move into this apartment is everything I have wanted for over 2 decades, and if I can succeed in this it will be like a miracle has happened to finally give me hope. To any and all who choose to help and support me, you have my love and deep gratitude, this one thing will change so much in my life, and for the better.
Thank you.
