Help Newt Dog

Hi all. Late on Wednesday, August 28th my 8 month old pup Newt (aka NewtDogg) started experiencing gastrointestinal distress. We went to the emergency vet at 3:30am, who gave him some meds and sent us home, but morning came and Newt wasn’t doing any better so we went to his normal vet. A blood test showed he was possibly going into renal failure and they couldn’t do any more for him there and that he would have to go to intensive care. Which is where he is now spending the next 5-7 nights with round the clock supportive care trying to save him.

Newt was happy and healthy one second and now he’s fighting for his life.

As you can imagine an extended stay in intensive care for a dog is not cheap. But I would do anything for Newt (and any of my animals). I’d go into debt and sell all my worldly possessions and I’d ask for the kindness of strangers to help us through this really difficult time.

Update - Newt has sepsis and severe gastroenteritis from still unknown source. His energy comes in waves, but today (Aug 31) he actually stood up to give lots of tail wags and licks and kisses for the first time. Newt is a brave, resilient boy and he is fighting really hard.

The vet bills are climbing (now exceeding $20K), as Newt has needed many plasma transfusions because he is losing so much fluid. He is also on antibiotics to treat sepsis and a possible lung infection, blood pressure medication, pain medication, and more. He needs frequent vitals taken, and thevet techs never leave his side. I know he is getting the best possible care. I know Newt wants to come home, please keep him in your thoughts. <3
