Hi, I'm Emily, and if you know anything about me, you know my dog Newt is my life. She's a 10 year old Border Collie mix, the runt of her litter, who I've had since she was 5 weeks old. She's the first (and only) dog I've ever had, so naturally, she's my entire world!
At her regular vet check up, we noticed her calcium was a little elevated. A few weeks later, I noticed her drinking more and she even had an accident in the house, which hasn't happened in years. I took her back to the vet, and we did some blood work, and discovered that her ALT (liver enzymes) was in the 700s! A normal dogs ALT is about 10-130. This means her liver had sustained significant damage. We did an emergency ultrasound after this and discovered a gallbladder mucocele! Her gallbladder was distended, filled with a mucus-y sludge that can't escape. The vet informed me this was a miracle, as mucoceles often aren't caught before they rupture. And once a mucocele ruptures, the prognosis is not good.
We had to test for cancer and cushings before we were able to get to surgery, but from the day of diagnosis to the day of the surgery was only about a week. This is because Newts gallbladder is at risk for rupturing due to how distended it is.
I recently have taken a pay cut to follow my dream of being a dog groomer, and all this has happened very quickly. From the first vet appointment to the surgery, it's only been two weeks. I've had to miss work to take her for testing, and I have to miss more work to help her recover. Removing the gallbladder is a dangerous surgery and she needs to be watched closely for the first 3-5 days.
I humbly ask for donations in helping me cover the costs of this surgery, and all the testing we've done over the past two weeks, not to mention the testing she'll have to undergo to make sure she's recovering well.
If you've read through this, thank you so much. Even 5 dollars would help us, but if you can't donate, I ask that you please pray for a swift recovery for her. She is the light of my life!
