Hi my name is Dmitriy Doroshenko. My wife (Dina Doroshenko) and I gave birth to this precious little baby boy on January 14, 2024. Initially he was diagnosed with Trisomy 21 (down syndrome) at 6th months of pregnancy, which was a shock to us because neither of us have anybody in our families with such a condition. Upon being born on January 14, 2024, Leon had a hemorrhagic stroke a few hours after being born and was posturing and refusing to eat. We were rushed to a children's hospital because of a need to do an MRI and MRA on Leon. After an ultrasound, an MRI, an MRA, Leon's condition remained unstable. The doctor contacted us and told us our options: Do nothing - Leon will die, Open up Leon's skull - also a high chance that Leon would die. We went with option 2.
The doctor was not sure whether Leon would survive the surgery, but ours and our friends of the family prayed for Leons healing. Leon survived. We lived at the NICU for a month. Leon is eating, breathing, looking around and so far is doing all things that babies his age should do.
As our medical bills are coming in and piling up, we are seeing 6 digits cost figures; Our insurance plan only covers so much and we are saddled with medical bills for Leon's surgery, our stay at the hospital, and upcoming efforts to get Leon to a state where he will enjoy life like all kids and grown-ups (when he gets there).
We would be grateful for your contributions in this difficult time.
Dmitriy, Dina, Leon Doroshenko
