Hi my name is Samuel Lindley.
My brother is in need of assistance from all this willing or able. Husband and expecting father Tim, age 24, has recently received some shaking news about his health. On Thursday, September 2nd, 2021, six days before his daughter Paisley’s due date, Tim visited the doctor's office, where blood tests were suggested as a result of blood in his urine. The same night, Tim received a very frightening call and was required to go to the ER immediately. Due to low platelet and red blood cell count he was admitted to Providence St. Vincent hospital in Portland, OR at 3:30am on Friday the 3rd.
Dangerous internal bleeding can occur when your platelet count falls below 10,000 platelets per microliter. At the time, Tim was at 22,000 platelets. The following day he was diagnosed with a rare and potentially fatal blood disease called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP). In TTP, blood clots form in small blood vessels throughout the body. The clots can limit or block the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the body's organs, such as the brain, kidneys, and heart. As a result, serious health problems can develop such as organ failure, coma, stroke, seizure, or death.
As a result of his diagnosis, he is not able to work. This adds to an already stressful situation because currently he is unable to qualify for paid medical leave due to time requirements of his newly acquired job. His wife is on maternity leave as baby Paisley is now due at any time. During the week he spent in Providence St. Vincent Hospital, Tim received a surgery to input a temporary venous catheter into his chest to allow for a treatment called plasmapheresis. Plasmapheresis treatments last 3-4 hours and requires a specialized dialysis team to perform properly. Along with this he is on a high dose of steroids, and other drugs to bring his blood levels back up to where they need to be.
As of 9/9/2021 Tim received 4 plasmapheresis treatments, and his blood levels were normal enough that the hospital allowed him to go home to be with his wife as the two of them excitedly anticipated beginning labor. Although, he is not completely out of the woods in this terrifying and difficult situation. On Monday 9/13/2021 he returned to the hematologist clinic to see if his platelet and red blood cell count have continued to maintain their healthy levels. Luckily, they returned back to the normal range, and now he will proceed by beginning weekly sessions of Rituxan, a drug that costs $7,724 per dose, and is administered similarly to chemotherapy. This will dangerously lower his immune system response. Afterwards, he will have to quarantine at home for 6 plus weeks, and will be unable to return to work until the doctors allow him to return.
The timing of this entire situation with the birth of his daughter looming overhead, along with medical costs of his treatments, the costs of delivering and raising a newborn, and being out of work for an unknown amount of time is the reason I put together this Go Fund Me.
