Help Neta's recovery
This fundraiser is for Neta Portal. Neta was a first year staff member at Surprise Lake Camp last summer, 2022. She created a long lasting impression on her campers and counsellors, and was regarded so highly by other staff.
On Saturday (7th October 2023), Netta was at her home at “Kfar aza” kibbutz with her boyfriend. Hamas entered the kibutz and went through every house until they came into Neta’s house. Neta and her boyfriend attempted to climb out the window, however were tragically shot in the process. Netta suffered 5 bullets to her legs.
They managed to run and silently wait for help, trying to save her leg at the same time. Her dad found them 3 hours later.
Neta had emergency surgery and is now recovering in hospital. Neta and her boyfriend were one of the few people who have managed to survive the kibbutz- the rest are either dead or kidnapped.
Whilst it is hard to find the words to use during these awful times, we are reminded of the importance of Tzedakah. Tzedakah is a Hebrew word meaning "righteousness", but commonly used to signify charity. We are asking for donations for Neta’s rehabilitation and medical help that she will need once she is able to leave hospital. The physical and mental effects these events will leave are unimaginable, but as Jews and Zionists we should do whatever we can to help. No donation is too small.
(We have had permission from Neta’s mum to create this)
