My name is Celina Hernández, and I am asking for your help during the most painful moment of my life as a mother.

Ten years ago, I immigrated to Canada with the hope of building a better future for my sons. It was a decision made out of love, but it came with great sacrifice, I was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia, which deeply affected my health and our family. Shortly after, one of my children was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, facing surgeries and a recurrence. Just when we thought we could finally breathe again, life struck us with the hardest blow.

In August 2024, my son Néstor Julián, now 35 years old, was diagnosed with diffuse signet ring cell carcinoma, an extremely aggressive form of stomach cancer.

Since then, Néstor has endured three major surgeries and more than 15 chemotherapy sessions. During his treatments, despite pain and exhaustion, he continued working to support his wife and children. Néstor is a proud, hardworking man who has never asked for help.

After months of treatment, doctors confirmed there was no evidence of cancer. We celebrated with hope, believing the nightmare was over.

But the cancer came back.

In a short period of time, it spread aggressively to other organs. In his last surgeries, Néstor lost 100% of his stomach, along with parts of his esophagus, spleen, pancreas, colon, and intestine. His body became extremely weak, and he lost a dangerous amount of weight.

During the most recent surgery, doctors found that the cancer had returned again. Due to the severe damage to his digestive system, Néstor now lives with an ostomy, meaning he must use a bag to pass waste. His digestive system is almost completely nonfunctional.

Today, Néstor can no longer work or provide for his family. He is at the physical and emotional limit of his illness. As a mother, my greatest pain is that I cannot be by his side—financial hardship and distance have made it impossible for me to travel and care for him during this critical time.
