Help Nergal Fulfill His Dream of Becoming a Counselor
Donation protected
Nergal is a queer refugee from Syria, currently living in London. Around ten years ago, Nergal was forced to flee his home in Syria due to the civil war that made his homeland uninhabitable and dangerous. In a single, brutal stroke, the war took everything from him—his family, his friends, and the land he called home. No one should ever have to experience such a profound loss, yet Nergal found the strength to keep going.
He spent over six years in Turkey as an undocumented migrant, fighting daily for his basic rights and survival. But Nergal never gave up hope. With the assistance of the UN, he was eventually resettled in the UK as a refugee, where he was given a second chance at life.
London has offered Nergal the opportunity to start over and begin building a future for himself—a future that, for the first time in a long time, feels within reach. Despite the obstacles, he has worked incredibly hard to pursue his education. Although his Syrian qualifications were not recognised in the UK, Nergal didn’t let that deter him. He completed an access course to university, earned a scholarship for a psychoanalysis course, and passed a foundation in psychology. His ultimate dream is to become a counsellor, using his experiences and empathy to help others heal.
Everything was looking good until Nergal received devastating news: he is not eligible for student finance just for his first year of university. This unexpected setback threatens to derail his dream just as it was within his grasp.
My name is Fede Maria. I met Nergal a little over a year ago, and in that short time, he has become one of those rare people who make an indelible mark on your life. He’s the kind of friend who always has your back, no matter what. His resilience and kindness have inspired me, and now I’m hoping that together, we can help him in his time of need.
Nergal is someone who has always fought for others, even when his own circumstances were dire. He has been a constant advocate for the most marginalised members of queer community, always standing up for those who have no one else to defend them. Now, he needs our help.
I’m asking for your support to help Nergal fund his first-year tuition fees of £9,250. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. And if you’re unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign would mean the world to us.
Nergal deserves the chance to fulfil his dream and build a life of his own. Let’s come together to help him achieve the “normal” life he has worked so hard for—one where he can continue to give back and help others through therapy and counseling. Your generosity will not only help him stay on the path he has fought so hard to be on, but it will also be a beacon of hope in his life.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support.
