I'm Frank Scaglione and Nelson has been one of my best friends for the past 20 years. He is the godfather of both of my children and I consider him a brother. But Nelson is undergoing a nearly 10-year life challenge as he battles cancer.

We are asking for financial help for him and his family as the holidays approach.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Nelson's situation, he was diagnosed in 2016 with soft-tissue lipo-sarcoma. The diagnosis turned his world upside down. What he thought would be one surgery and one round of treatment has turned into an almost-10 year rollercoaster of treatments, surgeries, remissions and recurrences.

After the first diagnosis in 2016, Nelson had a kidney removed and underwent chemo and radiation for several months. He was happy and optimistic to be in remission for the next three years. But in 2020, the cancer recurred. That was the beginning of a five-year period of annual surgeries as the cancer came back year after year.

A long-time employee of Frontier, Nelson was prevented from working full time by the ongoing surgeries and recoveries. Then in April of 2025, he began chemo again because the cancer was spreading. And so he has only been able to work about three months over the past two years. Because of this, he hasn't be able to build up enough hours to accrue FMLA benefits and this has put a huge financial burden on him and his wife Vanessa. The complexity and severity of Nelson’s condition mean that the financial burden of his recovery is immense and far-reaching.

For those of us who know Nelson, we know he has remained a strong and optimistic fighter for himself and his family. He continues to be a committed father and husband, and tries to live life to the fullest. Others might have given up years ago, but Nelson rarely complains and continues to show tremendous courage, grace, and strength.

Nelson feels blessed to have a devoted support system of family, extended family and close friends who continue to offer their emotional and sometimes financial support however the need is ongoing.

We are asking for your donation to cover Nelson's mounting expenses. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly to medical bills, prescription medications, groceries, utilities, and basic living expenses.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, it is even more important to help relieve Nelson's financial stress so that he, Vanessa and their daughter Sloane can enjoy the holidays without worry.
