Help Nellie With Her Kidney Transplant

Hi Everyone.

My name is Tom. My wife, Sheryl, and I are starting a fundraising effort for our daughter Nellie who is diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure and is on the national registry waiting for a donor.

Sheryl and I, along with friend and total strangers, have all been moved by Nellie’s story and have signed up to become potential donors for a living kidney transplant. Information on how all of this works and insight to Nellie's backstory can be found at kidneyfornellie.org. We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their love, kindness, and support in this effort.

Others have approached us saying that they want to help but aren’t in a position to be able to be a donor. These people have suggested setting up a GoFundMe as another method to show support to Nellie.

Kidney transplant is a major surgery and she will have many challenges connected to it.

Nellie is a special person who has been blessed with many gifts, talents and resources along with some sort of compass that points to true north. She has shown amazing strength, resilience and inspiration through the course of her many illnesses which began at age 2. We hope that this process activates and permanently uncovers all her gifts and talents and lights the way for her in the days ahead.

Along with a kidney transplant, there are additional costs both medical and non medical.

For example, Nellie is a student enrolled in the Honors College at the University of Massachusetts -- Amherst and is working hard to keep her May 2026 graduation date. This means she is taking additional summer and winter classes, which can be costly. There is also a plethora of medical costs, such as paying for medications and travel expenses associated with Nellie’s current condition. We also hope she can use these funds to keep her mental health strong to be able to enjoy and have positive strong experiences that will allow her to be able to grow in strong, healthy ways.
