Help Neil to keep fighting ❤️

On Monday, Neil came down with what seemed to be the stomach bug around 6:00 in the evening. By Tuesday evening he was still feeling weak and intermittently still showing symptoms of being sick with a stomach bug. Lindsay called to check on him from work Wednesday around noon and could tell he was not okay. Instincts told her he needed urgent medical attention and rushed to get him to the hospital. From there, it was a mad dash to treat him and time was not in Neil’s favor. He was immediately admitted and placed on oxygen. Neil was coughing up blood and still struggling to breathe while on maxed dose of oxygen which could not bring his oxygen levels out of the danger zone. Within minutes he was moved to the ICU where he was intubated within 2 hours or less from his arrival. Doctors learned Neil had become septic and was suffering from multiple organ failures. His kidneys required dialysis and his lungs were severely damaged and failing. By 11:15pm after many touch and go moments of life saving measures, a surgeon was located who could perform cannula placement. A medical team from LSU Health Shreveport flew in and assisted in surgically completing the cannulas and hooking Neil up to ECMO. He was air lifted just after midnight which was also risky due to the time crunch the air flight team faced with incoming weather. Neil arrived after 3:00am early yesterday morning (Thursday, 5/2) and medical team reported that Neil was successfully transferred and his condition was the best possible condition under the given circumstances. This was huge as Neil wouldn’t have been able to hang on without this medical intervention this quickly. Lindsay was told that had she not taken him to the hospital when she did, he likely wouldn’t have made it to the evening when she got home. Lindsay arrived in Shreveport a little after 4:00am and laid eyes on him for a brief moment and was allowed to go back at 10:00 am. He had a major decline around 4:30am but pulled through. When Lindsay arrived around 10:00 am, he was opening his eyes and moving under heavy sedation. She asked if he could hear her and he shook his head yes and squeezed her hand. Multiple questions were asked with Neil responding by a shake of his head, including if he was able to hear or remember Lindsay begging him to hold on hours earlier. He shook his head yes. Doctors believe this is helping him to fight and stay strong and overall keeping him from giving up. While he is still on life saving measures and will be for what they anticipate to be months, Lindsay remains steadfast in her support. Meanwhile, she’s unable to be with her two boys, Beckett (age 6) and Shepherd (age 2) and dependent upon her village of family and friends for extra support. Due to the longevity of Neil’s anticipated recovery, Lindsay’s expenses in order to remain by his side in Shreveport exceed $300/day and neither of them are working currently. We are creating this Go Fund Me account to help lessen the burden and make it possible for Lindsay to continue to remain by Neil’s side and help her sisters with caring for their two children. Thank you all in advance to anyone who is able to help by contributing whether it be financially or by prayer as prayers are certainly needed and appreciated immensely.
