I need your help because my attempt to protect myself from danger did not work in my favor! In my own home, I pulled the trigger to defend myself from my violent boyfriend because he physically attacked me. I was arrested and charged with a felony for domestic violence. No, he did not live with me in case some of you are wondering about our living arrangement. I paid all my bills; he did not help me with anything. I did not shoot to kill; he did not sustain any life threatening injuries and was released from the hospital the next day. Prior to this incident, he has harassed me and mentally abused me. I am and have been a law-abiding citizen my whole life and have never been arrested for anything. I legally own my firearm and it is properly registered with the state of Alabama. I am a licensed nurse working for the federal government with a security clearance. I would never intentionally do anything to jeopardize my job. I am also a single mother of two sons and a homeowner. I have been taking care of one adult son for the past several years who is suffering from heart failure and kidney failure and is going through weekly dialysis treatments. I spent four nights in jail due to the shooting, and I’m so traumatized by the experience because I have never been in jail. I am currently required to wear an ankle monitor and my employer is deciding on whether I will be able to remain employed. I have not worked in a week and there isn’t a clear indication as to whether I will be able to return to work. I desperately need money to secure a good lawyer for my defense as well as cover my upcoming mortgage and living expenses if I lose my job.
