Hi my name is Neiah. I am a 35 year old mother to 15 year old son Cameron and a special education intervention specialist. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of last year. I had a mass in my right breast and traces of cancer in my lymph nodes as well. After finding out more from a number of test results, my oncologist suggested I begin chemo treatments right away. I began my chemo therapy appointments on 9/14/23, scheduled every two weeks until 12/21/23. On 2/07/24 i was scheduled for a double (bilateral) mastectomy to remove both of my breasts and lymph nodes, reconstructive surgery and radiation following that.

When I went in for surgery everything was normal and I was ready for the next step to the journey. Surgery definitely did not go according to plan. I had an allergic reaction to the meds they gave me for the surgery. I went into anaphylactic shock and they had to revive me because my heart rate dropped and blood pressure increased. I was in ICU for 24 hours and in the hospital for 4 days following that. My hemoglobin levels were low and my blood count was more. After a blood transfusion, my blood pressure was back to normal. My echocardiogram came back normal as well. I was then release to go home to heal. Keep me in your prayers because It’s been a super scary experience! Just keep praying for me, it’s not nearly over. I still have to get through the rest of the surgery. It’s definitely a scary situation to be in. I’m just so much more thankful and grateful to be alive. I’m trying to stay positive and trust God.

My next surgery is scheduled for February 29th, the day after my birthday. I’m currently on medical leave through FMLA but my medical bills are increasing now with another surgery and doctor appointments still to go. I need a lot more support. If you are willing and able, here’s how you can help.
