Neftalí Recinos is currently being held in ICE detention at Hopkins County Jail in Kentucky, separated from his family and community in Indianapolis, where he has built his life and livelihood. Neftalí is a single father to two young children who depend on him every day. He is also the head of his household and a source of support for five younger siblings, many of whom look to him for guidance, stability, and help navigating daily life. His sudden detention has left an entire family in crisis.

Beyond being a devoted father and brother, Neftalí is known for his work as a precision feller in the timber-harvest setting, as well as for his extraordinary talent as a wood carver — a true craftsman whose work reflects patience, creativity, and care, transforming raw wood into beauty through skill earned over years of honest work. Neftalí has retained experienced immigration counsel with Trager Law, but like all individuals in immigration court, he has no access to a public defender. Legal representation — and the ability to post bond if granted — is essential to ensuring that his case is fully and fairly heard. While in detention, Neftalí has faced significant health challenges and was recently diagnosed with diabetes, adding urgency to his situation and concern for his well-being while confined. He has an important immigration court hearing on January 22, 2026. Judges often consider whether funds are realistically available when determining bond. For this reason, it is critical to demonstrate the ability to raise funds for legal fees and potential bond.

I am organizing this fundraiser as Neftalí’s former employer and a close friend of his family, with their full permission and in coordination with his attorney.
