Hello,

I'm Nadja El-Gharbawi, and I'm from Sweden. I'm reaching out to you to ask for your support for an urgent cause. My cousin, Mohamed Gherbawi, a 25-year-old from Gaza, is in need of medical assistance in Egypt due to his diabetes. Mohamed's diabetes has escalated to a critical stage, demanding immediate medical attention. Currently situated in Rafah, Mohamed needs approximately $5000 for evacuation, as well as crucial funds for ongoing treatment. The fundraising will directly assist Mohamed's medical needs by being deposited into my bank account in Sweden. Following this, I will transfer the funds to his bank account, guaranteeing that they are solely allocated for his healthcare expenses, encompassing evacuation, ongoing treatment, and any other necessary medical costs. Additionally, it will assist in his return to work, enabling him to provide for his family in Gaza. Your kindness and generosity in supporting Mohamed's journey toward better health are deeply appreciated. Please allow me to share Mohamed’s story with you:

Why did I start a fundraising campaign now instead of at the beginning of the war?

Less than a month before the war started, I was diagnosed with 'Lada - Type 1.5' diabetes, a rare condition requiring specialized treatment. This includes a continuous glucose monitor, which measures glucose levels every few minutes via a tiny sensor inserted under the skin. Despite the challenge, I sought to adapt positively. After numerous medical consultations, it became evident that managing this condition required dietary adjustments, insulin, a glucose sensor, and regular exercise to avoid diabetes-related complications. With gratitude to Allah, my immediate family and friends provided positive and supportive encouragement for my new lifestyle.

Since 2020, I've been working as a programmer and project manager in our startup company, which we established after years of dedication, late nights, and continuous learning. Through the blessings of Allah and the collective efforts of our team, we've accomplished numerous milestones and have entered a phase of financial stability, while striving to pursue even greater ambitions.

But the war drastically altered our circumstances. Gradually, as infrastructure crumbled, we lost access to essential resources such as internet and electricity, rendering us unable to continue working. After five months of war, my emergency savings were depleted while providing for my family's needs. Despite efforts to adapt, I struggled to locate my sensor and faced challenges obtaining insulin and adequate food amidst the ongoing war. Even under the most favorable conditions, our options were limited to rice and white bread, both unsuitable for my dietary requirements, exacerbating the situation further.

As the war persisted and the necessity of controlling blood sugar became undeniable, sticking to a strict diet became progressively difficult. Consequently, I made the difficult decision to leave Gaza. This decision serves two vital purposes: firstly, to access healthcare and essential medicine to safeguard my well-being, and secondly, to return to work and provide support for my fami
ly amidst these trying circumstances. Additionally, I aim to contribute to the repair of our home, which suffered damage during the war.

Please note: 10 Swedish kronor equals 1 dollar
