My name is Tommy, and I am reaching out to share a challenging chapter in our lives that began in August 2022. At that time, my wife Wan was diagnosed with cancer, leading us to embark on a treatment journey comprising radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery at Stanford. Unfortunately, the post-surgery update from the doctor was not very optimistic, prompting us to seek further care at MD Anderson in February 2023. We temporarily relocated to Houston, Texas, where we rented an apartment for six months to ensure Wan received treatment with peace of mind.
Initially, the treatment at MD Anderson showed positive results. However, later on, Wan experienced a relapse, with new nodules found in the lungs and pelvis. Balancing the need to care for our son and her treatment, we decided to return to Stanford. In Stanford, we explored a new treatment plan and medications. Unfortunately, after three treatments, the doctor informed us that the PET/CT scans indicated the drugs were ineffective, prolonging Wan's ongoing battle with the illness.
Adding to our challenges, our financial situation took a hit when I was laid off by my company in July 2023. Despite actively searching for employment and studying during the six months without a job, I also had to juggle responsibilities at home. I tried my best to supplement our income by driving for Uber whenever possible, however, it fell short of covering the mounting medical expenses, especially considering Wan's insurance must not lapse.
A nurse at Stanford once told us, "I know this is difficult, but you are still young, so don't give up." Wan doesn't want to give up, and she won't give up, so your support is crucial for her. Every bit of help from you will be our best gift in the New Year, and it will also be Wan’s hope for survival. Thank you for considering and offering your support. Best wishes to all of you!
