**6/30/25 update**
Today marks day 30 of Poseys doxycycline medication, which means that today is the day of her first injection for the heartworm treatment. We got up bright and early and left at 6:45 this morning to get her to the vet to have her urinalysis and blood rechecked due to the kidney and protein levels being elevated last month. Since then she has been fed on a schedule of twice daily feedings of a lower protein food. Not only did she lose 13 lbs (in large part I'm sure due to the removal of those severe mats all over her), but her levels were perfect!! And she was cleared for her injection today.
The vet office just called me with an update that she is doing well after her shot and relaxing in her kennel there until I pick her up tomorrow afternoon. They just gave me a heads up this visit is approximately $698.00. I asked how much to expect on the next one and they will try to have an esitmate on that tomorrow, but that it WILL be much more. The next visit is 2 injections, which is what costs the most. As well as double the amount of pain meds, and a 2 night stay.
We are close to reaching her goal.. and we appreciate ALL of the help along the way so far. Please continue to share her story and hopefully we can get the rest of this raised for her!! We want to give this big sweet girl the happiest and healthiest life here.. and we are on that road to recovery now with her! Thank you all!
**6/14/25 update**
Posey went back for her second grooming session today, and she looks so much better!! I added the photo showing her before and after. She's been doing great with taking her meds still. 2 more weeks of pills left and then she will head back to the vet for her first injection. Thank you for every donation & every share of her story! Your help means the world to us.
**5/31/25 update**
first off I want to thank everyone for their support either financially or sharing or sending prayers for our girl. Without everyone's help we wouldn't be able to do this treatment and get Posey healthy. Today we went to the vet again, this time to have blood and urine tested to be sure we could get started with the doxycycline. Although her protein level in her urine was a bit higher than normal, they did clear her to start. Posey will get 7 pills a day for the next 30 days (210 pills of doxy), then go back to have her first injection. After the vet we headed over to begin grooming. I can't imagine how much better she must feel now. Pounds lighter. Her dew claws are no longer curled around.. And those filthy mats removed. She can walk so much better & was even able to easily jump into the truck without using a ramp. She has to be feeling so much cooler and more comfortable. She will go back for the rest of the groom in 2 weeks, she was getting a bit overwhelmed today and needed a break. I'm adding some pictures from today to her update. Again, thank you all so so much!!!
I am reaching out in the hopes that we can get some help for this gentle giant we have recently taken in to give her the best possible life for her remaining years.
Posey girl is a 6 year old Great Pyrnees, and an absolute sweetheart. She spent her first 6 years in Georgia living on a farm with lots of animals to watch over and protect. Last year one of her owners became extremely ill and was then diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Around this time Poseys care began to lack, they became unable to keep up with the grooming needs. They are relocating to south FL to be able to get the best care for him as well as be close to family. As much as they wanted to bring her along, they knew it was not an ideal situation for Posey. She knows and loves her job as a livestock guardian dog. Apartment living in the south of FL is not for this girl. They made the choice to find her a new farm.
This is where we came in to Poseys life. A flyer made its way to one of my best friends on 5/16, on 5/21 I made the 6 hour drive from SC to GA to collect her. Posey was a dirty & very matted mess. But she melted my heart the moment I met her, dirt and mats and all. She will be getting a good groom this week.. but needed shots first. I took her to a vet to get her up to date on 5/28. The doctor said over all Posey is a healthy happy girl, BUT she does have heartworms. I was given estimates ranging from $2,500 to $3,000 for her treatment. She is a BIG girl at 153 lbs, and that causes her treatment to be extremely expensive. This has put us in a really tough situation as she has plenty of life left to live. We already love this girl and we want to get her cured. I don’t want Poseys story to end like this.
So as much as I hate to ask for help… Posey NEEDS it. I’m hoping to raise as much of the $3,000 as I can to get her the right treatment. Should anything extra be received over what is needed for the treatment it will go to Poseys needs. She is an outside dog, she can’t live in the house as it would cause her too much stress. She is a dog that knows her job is to protect her property and her animals. She is going to need a big fan in her area to keep her cool & comfortable during treatment months which will fall in the middle of summer here. As well as keeping up with her grooms to keep her coat shorter. I know we are all in tough places these days with the cost of life in general, but ANY amount will help.. as well as sharing this fundraiser to get more eyes on it for her.
Thank you for taking the time to read Poseys story, and for any and all help!!
