Help needed for Jasmine's vet bills
My friend, Renee, adopted Jasmine a year ago from a local humane society. A few months after her adoption, Jasmine developed a limp, the result of a degenerative bone condition which required her to have her back left leg amputated.
Now, just six months later, she became ill with a severe, but unknown infection or virus. About six weeks ago, Jasmine stopped eating and had a high fever. She was hospitalized for three days and then again for another overnight when her fever returned, despite receiving antibiotics.
She has other symptoms that don't seem to fit a clear diagnosis such as red, watery eyes, soreness on her back and skin lesions. Her blood work and urine was normal but the vet found what looks to be a mass in her lung. After weeks of treatment and the initial diagnostic tests, Jasmine's vet has recommended Jasmine see a specialist to determine what's going on.
After extensive testing, including a CT Scan and ultrasound., the specialist determined Jasmine has a long-standing fungal infection - a serious condition that is wreaking havoc on her skin, joints and lungs. The infection has already caused a deterioration in her lung function.
Her initial treatment cost about $4,000. The visit to the specialist and diagnostics cost another $4,000 and she will need on-going care and long-term treatment that will last months as fungal infections are difficult to treat.
This is obviously a challenging situation with multiple, complex health issues arising in a short period of time post adoption. My friend is committed to Jasmine, however, she is already in debt as a result of the many medical interventions and, at this point, she needs financial help. Any assistance would be appreciated!
Many thanks,
Lynn
