Markus and his rescue dog Gil have been through so much together - both with injured legs, both full of love and passion.

Years ago, Markus took in Gil, who had been rescued from a farm where she was neglected and chained outside all day and night. Not long after, Markus was in a serious car accident that left him unable to walk properly to this day.

Every weekend, Markus and Gil, an energetic bundle of fun come to Liberation Sanctuary. Markus donates his time and skills, advising us as a volunteer, improving the safety of our rescued animal family and is a huge asset to the team. He never asks for anything in return. Gil is always by his side, wagging her tail and bringing smiles and laughs with her endless energy to everyone she meets.

Last week, Gil injured herself trying to jump a gate and tore the tendons in her back paw. She needed specialist surgery, which involved a joint fusion and a plate in her left tarso-metatarsal region.

The cost of the surgery is significant and, despite Gil's insurance, the cost for Markus is huge ($8,000.00 total invoices, of which $2,000.00 remain payable by Markus after coverage by insurance). We want to help him reach the fundraising target and get the best care possible. Poor little Gil is in lots of pain and she’s desperate to be back on all four paws again.

We, the volunteers at Liberation Sanctuary, are raising funds to help our fellow volunteer and his brave girl get back to walking and jumping around the sanctuary.
