About a month ago, Dillinger, my 10 year old Doberman Pinscher was diagnosed with cancer.
As most of you know, Dillinger is my dream dog come true! From the first day I picked him up, I knew I found my soul dog. He grew attached to me immediately as I to him. I spent many days training him and exercising him. He learned sit, paw and speak in just two days of me having him! I knew Dillinger would truly be a one of a kind dog. Then, once my son was born, Dillinger showed me that he was the best fur brother any child can have! My son was his kid, they basically grew up together.
Dillinger has passed his Advanced K9 Good Citizen Test and is a Certified Service Animal. He 100% wins everyone over with how affectionate, loving and well behaved he is. Dillinger enjoys hiking, going to the beach during doggy off season and visiting different dog parks to meet all sorts of paw friends. But I have to say, Dillinger’s most favorite activity is playing fetch with a ball - any ball! A perfect doggie day would be playing fetch in the park followed by lots of rubs and affection.
Dillinger has also attended Mets games at Citi Field, has featured in music videos such as Remy Ma and Lil Kim‘s “Wake Me Up”, photoshoots for students in NYU fashion and arts industry, in addition to Vogue magazine for fall/winter fashion week of 2018. He was also featured in a commercial shoot for Converse sneakers and more recently modeled for a doggie sneaker company named RifRuf.
When the Veterinarian confirmed his biopsy results were cancerous my heart dropped. The placement of the cancerous mass resided in his toe on his front left paw. After a few vet visits, we decided with going through with toe amputation. Unfortunately Its been a very expensive journey so far. We have had multiple Veterinary visits with more to follow. The visits include but are not limited to: blood work, urinalysis exam, biopsies, x-rays, EKG exam, medical paw soaks, toe amputation (surgical procedure), bandage changes (pre-op and post-op), post surgery follow ups, suture removal, and medication (antibiotics and pain medicine). We are also expecting the biopsy results from the toe amputation which will determine if the cancer was localized or if it is malignant and spreads. If malignant and spreads, further treatment may be necessary. I am hoping to give Dillinger all the chance in the world to live the doggie life he deserves. He has brought so much joy and love to my family and everyone who has met him.
If anyone can help donate to help pay for Dillinger’s Veterinary bills, any amount is very helpful and appreciated during this difficult time.
