About Our Club

Newbury District Swimming Club (NDSC) supports swimmers of all ages—from our Teaching Programme for age 4+ to our National-level Competitive Squads and Masters section. Our goal is to help every swimmer reach their potential in a supportive environment.

Why We Are Fundraising

The club owns and maintains its own racing lane ropes. They are essential for training and competitions, such as our Club Championships. Because they are club property, we are responsible for their replacement. After years of heavy use, our current set is in a poor state and requires a full replacement.

The Condition of Our Lane Ropes

Our current lane lines have reached a point where they can no longer be effectively repaired:

  • Makeshift Repairs: We are using plastic piping to cover bare wires where the original discs have shattered and fallen away.
  • Failing Cables: Internal cables are fraying. When they break, we have to use plain ropes which offer no wave-dampening. This turns the pool into a "washing machine" of turbulent water that hinders technique for every swimmer in the pool.
  • Safety Risks: Exposed wires and broken plastic pose a constant risk of cuts or snags to swimmers’ hands and feet during fast sets.

Why the Goal is £4,000

Anti-turbulence lane lines are specialized equipment. They use weighted, rotating discs and high-tension cables designed specifically to dampen waves and calm the water.

Replacing a full set is a significant investment, but it is necessary to move away from temporary patches and ensure a quality environment for all our sessions.

How the Funds Will Be Used

We aim to raise £4,000 to replace our entire set of worn equipment. This ensures every member—from development squads to National competitors—has the high-quality, safe equipment they need to succeed.
