Help Naz Secure Housing and Health Costs

Hi, my name is Nazar (he/they), I am a multidisciplinary Black and trans artist— experimental musician, illustrator/graphic artist, fashion addict, philosophy enthusiast, animal appreciator, and Detroit underground community member.

I am making this fundraiser to ask for assistance in housing and taking care of my health and wellbeing. To be vulnerable publicly is difficult for me, so I ask to be approached with care. I keep much of this to myself because the nature of my experiences have affected my comfortability with asking for help, but I am seeking to be gentler with myself and accept it.

Since June 2021, the month of my 18th birthday, I have been in a housing crisis as a result of my relationship with my narcissistically abusive mother. Over the course of my life, she has put me through physical, emotional, and financial abuse. This has made it incredibly difficult to transition into adulthood, which I had to teach myself how to do when she kicked me out for the first time 2 weeks into it. I turn 22 this year and I am still struggling.

Over the last 3 years I have lived in various situations such as a homeless shelter, informally rented rooms I couldn't afford, squatting in buildings, and inevitably ended up back in her home, where I currently reside. I am disabled and maintaining employment has been difficult— the only job I could manage to enjoy and sustain was part-time and seasonal at a supposedly "progressive" organization for two years, in which my boss terminated me without warning for racially micro-aggressive and ableist reasons back in August (I was accused of "using foul language" out of thin air with no proof and told that having a disability made me an "unreliable" employee even though I loved my job and was picking up like everyone's shifts and helping diversify the staff lol).

Since then I have been unable to find employment as the job market ignores thousands of applications and my only solid reference is now unusable. This means as I moved back into my mom's last summer, I have made no progress towards securing housing for myself because I have no income.

Living with my mother is incredibly challenging, as I can barely have even basic interactions with her and I spend most of my time locked in my room everyday in an effort to preserve myself and prevent arguments. I struggle to continue developing my creative career while residing here, which is something I have relied on for income. I also cannot drive, which makes it hard to continue showing up in my community because there is not much going on near my neighborhood, especially when it's cold, and it limits the ways I can travel for employment.

Additionally, in November I had a tooth infection that caused half of my face to swell (my dental health was affected by homelessness). I was able to get an emergency root canal with support from my sibling who lives out of state, but I have more work to be done, most importantly putting crowns on two of my teeth, one of which suffered the infection.

The money from this fundraiser will go towards:
1. Securing housing and paying living costs for a period of time, or saved until I can create enough security to move out.
2. Doctor's visits, starting with necessary dental work, then supporting things such as transition costs.
3. Driving school/transportation costs, as I live in the city built around the invention of cars and I walk and bus everywhere.
I have set the goal at $8k, but anything helps.

Additionally, if you would like to support my creative work, I make experimental hip hop/techno music under the moniker Alaase Physics, and post my visual/mental musings on my Instagram @alaasephysics. Thank you for reading and bless, ase.
