Our beloved dog Navi is such an important part of our family. She is always loud and proud and will tell anybody about what a big deal she is. Recently, Navi had an irritation in her toe that the vet treated as an infection, however, it didn't respond to antibiotics and got much worse, so the doctor said we would have to amputate the toe to stop the spread of whatever it was.

We later learned that she has metastatic cancer, and the cancer was literally eating through the bone and tissue in her toe. It's been heartbreaking to watch her go through this, and we want to do everything we can to help her heal and get back to her happy, playful self.

The costs for Navi's care have added up quickly. She has needed x-rays, blood work, a thorough evaluation before surgery, medication, and aftercare to ensure a smooth recovery. The vet also sent the toe for a biopsy to confirm cancer, which is another expense we need to cover. Every step is important to give Navi the best chance at a healthy future, but it's overwhelming to manage all of this on our own.

We do not know how much time we have with Navi. If we wanted to find out what stage cancer she has, the oncologist (which is two hours one way) would quoted a charge of $1800-$3000. We've decided to forgo the staging and fundraise to help with end of life care to keep Navi comfortable and help with expenses to help her no longer feel pain and suffering in the end.

Our family has been going through a lot lately. Just last month, our other dog, Twix, was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and now needs two medications a day, taken twice daily. This is a big deal because he is already seventeen years old.

We love our furbabies deeply—they truly are our children, especially since we haven't been able to have children of our own. With me on disability, it's hard to cover these unexpected costs.
