Help Navi Fight for a Few More Years
Doação protegida
Over the past few weeks, my cat Navi had been to the vet three times as I've been trying to figure out why she hasn't been eating as much lately. She would pick at her food, then walk away. So I'd then pick her back up, put her in front of her food and try to encourage her to eat more. This usually worked, but over time she wanted to eat less and less.
Then, last week Sunday night her mouth started bleeding and we rushed her to the ER. They treated her the best they could there with fluids, pain relievers and some antibiotics but suspected she potentially had an infection or cancer in mouth. She was in a lot of pain that night and she wouldn’t let them look in her mouth either.
To further treat her, they recommended we take her down to UW Madison where they have a veterinarian dentistry department. So the following day, after the snow settled we rushed her down. They took her in quickly, put her on fluids and found she had a fever of 104 degrees, was quite dehydrated and after sticking a needle in her swollen chin they found it was full of puss. They lightly sedated her and removed the excess puss. They kept her overnight to monitor her further.
At the time of writing it’s Tuesday February 4th, Navi is still with UW Madison. She’s on a feeding tube, is quite drugged up but they say she’s purring and wants cuddles haha. Today they’re planning to sedate her more to give her a CT Scan and to remove a piece of bone so they can do a biopsy and culture to test for Osteomyelitis (bone infection). They’ll be keeping her overnight and with luck they said I’ll be able to take her home tomorrow morning.
To be so frank right now, this is something I monetarily can’t afford right now. I moved from the state of Oregon back to Wisconsin late last year and that completely drained me and then some. However, I can’t afford to lose Navi either. She just turned 16 last month, and we’ve been together since the beginning. I still remember the day I adopted, still living with Mom, still in high school. Fully committing myself to this little gal. She's been by my side through everything, and she means the absolute world to me.
Since moving back to Wisconsin, I've taken her to the vet 4 times in total before her mouth started bleeding. I was doing absolutely everything I could to prevent this type of ER visit with her, but this was something that truly caught me and my local vet off guard. It pains me so much to ask for this kind of help, but I know it’s not about me. It’s about her.
About an hour before we got in the car to head down to Madison, she finally stood by her water fountain and drank water for nearly a minute straight. I've been keeping a lot of her medication and her eating habits for the past week and it had truly been a few days since we'd seen her do this. She may be 16 years old, but she still wants to fight. Still still wants to live. So please, if you can, help me give Navi a few more great years.
