Help Nature Reserve on Kwa Zulu Coast Restore Amenities

Hello my name is Ethelinde, we are volunteers for KZN Ezimvelo Wildlife, which is the provisional parks board in Kwa Zulu Natal. The reserve I am currently fundraising for is a beautiful pristine area of coastal grassland based just off the Natal Coast.

Next to the reserve are communities who benefit from the healthy functioning of the reserve itself.

We are looking to refurbish the facilities in the reserve to maker it more appealing and usable for visitors.

First we hope to start with the toilet and shower facilities and thereafter we will look to improve the walkways as well as the fittings and furnishings within the Rondavels (which is the overnight accommodation).

We also would need to look into re-wiring all the electrics within the overnight accommodation.

We will use local contractors who come from the community for the refurbishments of the shower blocks as well as for the refurbishment of the Rondavels.

The stages of fundraising will include firstly the shower blocks (of which there are 5) - this also includes the entrance amenities. The second stage will be the walkways, and thereafter the interior of the Rondavels ( which we will look to incorporate the skills of local craftswoman/ men) to help us make it clean simple and functional, using local materials in the refurbishment.

All salvaged materials will go directly back into communal use and we will endeavour to minimise landfill and any excess use of material.

This is also a site where many researchers come from all over the world to study various specifies of animals and plants as it's a habitat that's still fairly pristine. These type of indigenous coastal grasslands with mixed woodland has becoming extremely rare to find. We want to respect it by creating a space for both local and foreign visitors to come and become educated visually by their surroundings.

Please help us to sensitively restore this beautiful heritage site, and make it valuable to both the communities and visitors.
