Help Native American Indian Children Go to D.C.

 

Hello! I am asking for your support to help the children on the Reservation who have a dream to go on a middle school trip to Washington, D.C.!

 

My sister, Ms. Ferguson, left her full-time job to teach at Pueblo of Jemez, a federally recognized Indian Tribe in New Mexico and our home Pueblo, just before the pandemic. Ms. Ferguson teaches middle school Science to 7th and 8th graders at San Diego Riverside Day School. Riverside is a public school on the Jemez Pueblo Reservation.

 

The students went fully online in 2020, and have been battling Covid restrictions and impacts ever since. The Village went on lock-down in March 2020 and has remained so today. There are many challenges, but the children have been hard hit, with the isolation, illnesses, death, unemployment, impacts on family, the lack of ability for the village to gather in traditional ceremonies, AND learning gaps.

 

One thing that has truly sparked some excitement by all is the idea of a field trip to Washington, D.C. Ms. Ferguson got the idea to give the students something to look forward to (hoping that Covid restrictions relent and they can travel safely). The students were so excited! Many have never been out of the state or traveled on an airplane. The light in their eyes was inspiring when they attended the informational meeting with the tour group, EF Tours - They were BEAMING!

The light went out when they learned the price per student! The total amount for 15 children and 4 adults would be around $45,000. The students are willing to do individual fundraising, but this amount is more than any could imagine.  But YOU can help! 

 

I am determined to show the students that we care about them and their dreams can come true!

This amount seems like an impossible goal, but we are showing the students how to break it down.

* 575 people to donate $75!

We are still working on OUR First Goal of  $5, 000!  We need to place the deposit by March 21st! 
ALL Proceeds will toward the registration fee for each  student who signed  up to join the trip to D.C.! Can you help us?
