Mary Porter is my mentor and friend. She is a descendant of the Yakama, Wasco, and Nez Perce Peoples. Recognized as a hereditary leader by the Nations of the Sauk Suiattle Reservation in Washington State, she is one of six people that speak the traditional Lushootseed language that qualify to teach it. This language is critically in danger. Her work will help preserve this vital dialogue for future generations. Mary also teaches sewing, which will protect traditional garment-making.
For Mary to do this essential work, she needs a new computer. Her old one is busted. Donating can be seen as a form of reparation or a generous and kind thing to do.
