Help Nathanael Rodriguez on his road to recovery.

“Lord, to whom shall we go? For You alone have the words of eternal life.”
On July 16th, the Rodriguez family received a call from the Sheriff’s Department in June Lake (where Nathanael lives), letting them know that he was found incoherent by the lake. Shortly after, the Sheriff realized Nathanael’s health was compromised, he was rushed to the ER in Mammoth, but due to his condition they could not treat him and decided to airlift him to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.
Upon arrival, the medical team realized he was septic, with severe inflammation, major organ failure, and high risk of a heart attack.
Till this day, multiple specialists have not been able to diagnose Nathanael and continue testing in hopes to find out the root cause.
What they do know now, is that Nathanel’s brain has sustained significant brain damage due to severe inflammation affecting his short-term memory, his major organs are not doing well, and he is now on dialysis for kidney failure.
As a result of his current condition, the Rodriguez family is looking at a long road ahead of them which will keep Nathanael and his family in the hospital for the foreseeable future. Based on what the doctors have shared, if he survives this, it could take years for his brain and kidneys to recover. Meaning that his memory will remain in its current state and Nathanael will not be able to make new memories or remember anything that happened from the day of the accident.

The family has shared:

We know that the Lord allowed this to happen for a reason, and it is because the Lord cares more for Nathanael’s soul than anything else. The Lord is good and does good and we are rejoicing in the fact that Nate wants to know his Savior, that is our first miracle; to watch him cry out to Him. The only thing that Nathanael wants us to do when he is aware of his surroundings, is to read the Bible to him, pray for him, and remind him of how great God is, even though he has no memory of us being there. He remembers scripture passages, especially 1 Corinthians 2:9 - No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him, and John 6:68 - “Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? For You alone have the words of eternal life.”

We are seeing the work of the Holy Spirit in Nathanael’s life as Scripture is the only thing he remembers consistently. This has been a testimony to the people around us in the hospital and visitors – that the souls of His children belong to our Heavenly Father and not to this world. Even in confusion there is clarity in God’s word for Nathanael, though his mind and body might be affected by illness we know that his soul is resting in the truth. It is a sweet reminder to us all that Nates life, like ours, is only ever being held and sustained by our Creator, the giver and sustainer of life.

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation: for by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” -Colossians 1:13-17

First and foremost, we ask for prayer for the Lord to use this for His glory and His gospel to be proclaimed through Nate’s life. But we also ask that you pray for healing and wisdom for the doctors treating Nathanael.

Again, looking at the road ahead, the family knows they will be in Nevada for the foreseeable future to continue testing and treatments. If the Lord wills and he is stable enough to be transferred to California, the family is expecting a long road of recovery for Nathanael as well as a long road of care and treatments.
If God leads you to support the Rodriguez family financially during this trial, we are so grateful for your love and care for Nathanael.
