Help Nathan to walk
Donation protected
Hi my name is Karen and I am fundraising for my grandson Nathan. As a grandmother, I wanted to do all that I could to support my beautiful grandson and I came across the Trexo robotics walker. I knew that this is what was needed for him to take his first steps. I have asked his parents to share the journey thus far.
Nathan is our son. He is an amazing, inspiring young man. At just five months old, after missing many milestones, Nathan had an MRI under sedation. The next day his pediatrician called us knowing we wouldn't sleep until we heard the results, and this is when life changed forever. There was an abnormal development of his brain in his gray matter before his birth . He had a condition called Polymicrogyria, or PMG for short. His brain wasn't like a typical brain and so Nathan would not be a typical child. All the doctors told us our beautiful boy would not walk, would not talk, would not eat solid foods and to prepare for life threatening seizures.
Nathan will turn six in December 2021. He is in SK and it truly is his happy place. He loves being around his teachers and friends. He is able to sit for short amounts of time, he can shimmy his way across the floor and is a social butterfly. He can stand with assistance but is yet unable to walk. He got his wheelchair two years ago and members of our amazing local Lions Club were able to build him a ramp so he can safely get in and out of our home.
Nathan is a happy and funny boy and his smile is infectious. We are so proud to be his parents, but he is wanting to gain more independence and interact with his peers. It is our dream for Nathan to be able to walk one day. It truly would be life changing for both him and us. It would open his world to many more experiences, increase his confidence and allow him to belong in a world that is suited for mobile people.
By word of mouth, we have found the Trexo robotic home walker. It’s amazing technology that provides the chance for children with disabilities, who are unable to walk and stand on their own, to do just that in the comfort of our own home and neighborhood. With time, many children can transfer the walking skills that many of us take for granted and use them to walk without the robotic assistance. Our dream is for Nathan to live the best life possible, and we believe for him that means being able to walk. We are asking for donations to help reach our goal to purchase a Trexo walker and give Nathan that chance.
We appreciate your thoughtful consideration of our request, and from Nathan and our entire family, we sincerely thank you.
