Help Me Stay by Andrea’s Side
A caregiver’s call for support during the fight of our lives
Hi, my name is Nathan, and I’m creating this fundraiser so I can remain at the bedside of the love of my life, Andrea, as we fight through the most difficult chapter we've ever faced.
Andrea is 38 years old, brilliant, brave, and kind beyond words. On April 13th 2025, life as we knew it changed overnight. She was diagnosed with end-stage heart failure caused by cardiac sarcoidosis, a rare and aggressive disease that’s taken her heart but not her spirit.
She is now Status 2 on the national heart transplant list, receiving 24/7 care at UCSD Medical Center in La Jolla. She is connected to machines that are keeping her alive. Every day is a fragile balance of medication, lab work, pain, and prayers.
If you know Andrea, you know she doesn’t like asking for help. She fights for herself and has dedicated her life to lifting others up. She has worked in service of her community, her friends, and her family. But now, she’s facing something she can’t do alone. I'm here for her but I need your help.
Why I’m Asking for Help
In order for Andrea to even be eligible for a transplant, the hospital required that a caregiver commit to being by her side for at least a year following surgery. Without that agreement, she wouldn't be listed. I made that commitment without hesitation and I will do whatever it takes to keep it.
But that also means I’ve had to step away from my work entirely. I’m now responsible for staying close to her, attending daily hospital meetings, managing all non medical logistics, and preparing for the long road ahead.
This fundraiser is for my personal expenses as Andrea’s caregiver so I can remain at her side without falling apart financially. My goal is 95k.
That includes:
-Daily parking, food, and basic living costs near the hospital
-Temporary housing to stay close to UCSD
-Transportation and out-of-pocket essentials
What Your Support Means
Your generosity helps keep me on the ground so I can care for Andrea. It helps with my cost of living so I can continue to be strong and care for her.
Every donation goes directly to sustaining my role as her caregiver so she can focus on recovering and fighting for her life, so I can keep showing up for her every day.
Even a few dollars makes a real difference.
Even a share of this campaign helps bring in the help we need.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Your kindness is helping keep us together.
With deep gratitude,
—Nathan
