Hi, my name is Jamie, and I’m reaching out to ask for support as my husband, Nathan, prepares to undergo brain surgery on June 19.

Nathan lives with drug-resistant epilepsy, which means his seizures haven’t responded to medication.

His journey with drug-resistant epilepsy has been challenging and taken a toll on his quality life. He’s tried multiple medications, but unfortunately, his seizures have increased in frequency. Nathan has undergone numerous EEG tests, including a week-long stay in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, multiple MRIs and a PET scan, all in an effort to better understand and treat his condition.

The next step in his treatment is a temporal lobectomy. This procedure could reduce, or even stop, his seizures, and while it’s scary, we’re incredibly hopeful.

Through it all, Nathan has faced these challenges with incredible bravery and resilience. Despite everything, he’s continued to live as fully as possible, never losing his sense of humor or ability to make those around him smile. His strength inspires me every day.

Although the surgery itself is covered, there are many expenses we still need to manage. We’ll need to stay in London for the surgery and recovery. Nathan will be off work for a while to heal, and I’ll be off work to care for him. There will be trips back and forth to London and Hamilton for follow-up appointments with his specialists.

I’m not usually one to ask for help, but we can’t do this alone. This fundraiser will help us cover:

• Lost income while we’re both off work

• Travel to and accommodations in London

• Meals and daily living expenses during recovery

• Follow-up appointments and longer-term care
