Nathan is a 35 year old young man that lives quietly in his condo with his dog, Eve, on Ocean Beach. A week ago, he heard some noise on the street and walked to his window to see what it was all about. There were teenagers arguing then shots rang out, one stray bullet hitting Nathan in the abdomen. He managed to drag himself to the hall in the building and our neighbor, Katherine came out to help him, calling 911. He was taken to Zuckerberg Trauma Center in critical condition. Four teenagers on the street were shot with minor injuries. Thus far, Nathan has had 3 surgeries, losing his kidney and a section of his bowel. While he is progressing nicely, he will incur long term healthcare expenses. If we cannot feel safe in our own homes, what will become of us?
