On September 19, 2019 my fiance and son's father, Nate Speelman, was in a severe motorcycle accident and our lives have been forever changed.
A car pulled out in front of him on the highway and they VIOLENTLY collided. He was transported to Ohio Health Med Central and then quickly after his arrival there he was life flighted to Grant Medical in Columbus where we have been ever since. He survived and has been fighting for his life ever since.
He is alive, but he has a very long road to recovery ahead of him. He had multiple life sustaining surgeries upon arrival. We have a great team of doctors from numerous departments such as trauma, ortho, plastics, and nephrology. He has what they call a severe open book pelvic fracture and multiple sacrum fractures as well.
On October 4th they ended up having to amputate his right leg. They did what they call a complete hip dis-articulation where they took part of his hip as well.
After numerous surgeries on his abdomen and internal organs, he is left with a partially open abdomen with a wound vac which will hopefully heal on its own in 6 months to a year. Even after it is healed he may need to have a graft done to close up the abdomen. He is currently on his 14th surgery since being here and unfortunately will have more.
Nate is looking at about a years plus of recovery time including his rehab time. Right now we are just trying to work on getting his body stable enough and healed so we can eventually get him into a rehab facility.
Our family is asking for any donations to help with bills and daily expenses due to him being completely out of work with no income. And I’ve had to take multiple weeks off and take half days to be there for him.
I’m still trying how to figure out how to balance raising our son, working, and taking care of Nate . I have been currently staying on a cot in his room at the hospital with him and traveling back and forth from Ashland to Columbus.
Donations would be used for gas and food expenses, Medical bills and rehab/facility costs, daily bills/past due bills and just any other unexpected cost to come.
We would appreciate even the smallest donations anything to help make this long journey a little less stressful for our family.
