From Natalie (daughter of Roger & Beth McCrary): Hey everyone. I am writing with some devastating news. My wonderful fiancé and I have fallen victim to a phone scam. I have lost all the money my parents gave me to pay for our wedding. Plus funds to pay for my new car (upgraded to a mini van for future mom life), and some additional savings. The scammers also maxed out my credit card. All of it totaled to $27,000.

I’ve spent most of the last weeks in shock & grief. I’ve taken all the steps you’re supposed to take, but there’s nothing the bank can do to get our money back. We have some of our own money saved up, but paying for the wedding & the car & paying off the credit card will drain all of those funds and still leave us in the red. So we’ll be starting our marriage & family with no emergency funds & no financial legs to stand on. (For those of you that don’t know, my fiancé has a daughter and two foster kiddos, so when we get married, I’ll become an instant mama.)

The whole situation makes me sad & scared. It’s unfair, heartbreaking, and devastating. I feel violated as a human, and of course I feel foolish that I was deceived. I am leaning on Jesus to pick up the pieces of my broken heart, and I am learning to trust that the Scripture is true: He knows our needs, and we need not worry about them.

Please pray with us that God will provide for me & my new family & our wedding, & that He will show me how He’ll make something good come out of this. It’s been horrible, but we are finding hope in Jesus, who always brings beauty from ashes, restores what was lost, and never wastes anything in our stories. “We are struck down, but not destroyed.”
