Nat’s Story:
My dear friend Nat is one of the hardest-working people I know. Last year, she made a brave decision to leave her job and pursue a career as an electrician. The union was overwhelmed with jobs, and it seemed like the perfect chance to find steady work with good benefits and health insurance. For months, she worked as an apprentice electrician and loved the trade.

But then, tariffs, cancelled government contracts, and the Trump economy hit. Construction jobs in her area dried up. For the last five months, Nat has been waiting for a call from the union hall — her name hasn’t moved on the list since the day she was added. She’s applied everywhere — delivery gigs like UberEats and Instacart (which aren’t taking new workers), fast food, and retail. But it’s been an uphill battle: employers hesitate to hire someone with advanced skills who they fear will leave when trade jobs return.

Now she’s in crisis. Her unemployment has run out, her health insurance has lapsed, and she’s paying out-of-pocket for needed medication. Rent for her small San Diego studio is $1,675 a month, and she’s facing the very real possibility of losing her home next month. If that happens, she’ll also be forced to give up Coco, her beloved cat — her companion through all of this, but she couldn't subject Coco to life in a car.

Nat is not someone who asks for help easily. She has a master’s degree in biology, doesn’t drink or use drugs, and has always been the kind of person who works hard and takes care of her responsibilities. But right now, she can’t do this alone.

If you’re in San Diego and know of any work opportunities — of any kind — please reach out. Even temporary or odd jobs would make a huge difference while she waits for union work to open back up.

Our Goal:
We’re asking for $6,000 to help Nat cover the basics for the next few months:

Rent ($1,675/month) – so she and Coco can stay in their home

Medication + essentials ($250/month) – until her health insurance is restored

Stability for 3–4 months – giving her time to land work and rebuild

Every dollar truly makes a difference. Together, we can help Nat through this gap so she doesn’t lose everything she’s worked for — including her home and Coco.

Thank you for taking the time to read Nat and Coco’s story. Your kindness, whether through donating, sharing, or offering work opportunities in San Diego, means the world. With your support, Nat can keep her home, stay healthy, and hold onto Coco while she waits for work to return. She’s worked so hard for a better future — and with a little help right now, she can make it through this tough season. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with them.

Thank You ❤️
