Natalie has been my friend for going on 3 years now, and has kept a lot of her private life quiet. On the outside we always saw a happy and confident yoga teacher who teaches from a place of authenticity, often talking about some of the struggles in her life, like her battle with depression and PTSD. She, has fought a Depression and PTSD diagnosis, from past trauma, for a number of years by practicing yoga and taking the necessary medications.
About three years ago, Natalie met someone, fell in love, and got married. She supported her husband 100% in his career progression, and throughout his education. Which has since given him a solid income for a 2 person family. She let her life and career desires take a back seat to his, and mutually, they decided to live off his income alone. *To be a yoga instructor and personal fitness coach is very often done for the love of helping people and seeing lives changed more than it is for the money.* During this time she began branching out and starting to build her brand as a yoga instructor and personal trainer. She has taught in many studios and gyms all over the Birmingham Metro area and even started a Yoga Teacher Training School with her first group of students this year.
A few weeks ago her husband walked out on her, leaving her with absolutly no money or resources, a lot of confusion emotionally and spiritually, and then filed for divorce. If you don’t know the details of how divorce works in Alabama, it’s not always fair when the duration of the marriage is less than 10 years. So all the work and support she put into this relationship will be valued very little if any, which is why I started this Go Fund Me page for her.
Natalie has in the matter of weeks, lost emotional and financial security, has been handed a massive financial obligation with no means of fulfilling it, and to top it off she decided that it was going to be financially impossible to take care of two grown dogs. She had to give on of them away, and if you’ve ever had to let go of a pet, you know the heartbreak that comes with it. Her other dog, Ponyo, is her service dog, and it will be near impossible for her to function through this without him.
Natalie is not one to ask for help, she is always the one that helps, I’m sure some of you can relate to this or at least knows others like Natalie.
So here is where she stands and the items she needs the most help with.
Lawyer: $unknown at this point
First and foremost, she has to pay for a lawyer to represent her best interest in this case. We hope they will be able to get her some sort of help but, honestly, who has an emergency lawyer fund lying around?
Health Insurance: $ unknown at this point
Her need to continue her treatment for Depression and PTSD is very important and she will be covered under her husbands insurance until the divorce is final. But she can’t afford a lapse in coverage so she needs to get individual health insurance ASAP.
Living Arrangements: $1500-$2500 for 2-3 months and applications fees and deposits. She is also allowed to live in their home until the divorce is finalized which is good but we all know how difficult and expensive it can be to find an apartment on short notice so she needs money for a deposit and a few months of rent while she acquires a new job and get’s an income flowing.Bills/Utilities/Everyday Essentials: $[phone redacted] for 2-3 months
Imagine, and I’m sure some of you can, waking up one morning and realizing that you have no access to your bank account and you only have the cash on hand and you go to the mailbox and all those bills you have show up. Your power, water, internet, phone, etc. What do you do? Well that is exactly what happened to Natalie, and she still has to pay for all these things that have been paid for over the last two years. She’ll be able to slim down on the “luxury” items, which is what we all do in these situations. But she still has to pay for whatever was billed until the date of those cancelations. So she needs help with that overhead, not to mention getting them transferred to her new home, wherever that may be and whatever deposits that may include. Food, Gas, Car Insurance, etc. Once all the money is spent on those necessary living expenses and lawyers, you still have to eat and be able to drive to work to make money to pay for driving to work.
Her husband left her with $0 in her bank account, no computer, he left her alone in a house with her clothes and her service dog, Ponyo, which she also needs to feed. There is no guarantee that she will get a settlement from the divorce which doesn’t always happen with great speed. In other words she needs help immediately.
Please consider donating whatever you can to support Natalie during this time so that she can get on her feet and have the means and the health to pay it forward and continue to teach others how to live an authentic life in Health, Stillness, and Strength through yoga. Any amount will be helpful, and please share this page as often as you can.
Thank you so very much for donating,
