Help Natalie Tyler Bring the #GlassTornado Sculpture to Life
Donation protected
My name is Natalie Tyler, and I am an artist. I have been creating public artworks about the effects of climate change on us and the environment. My first public sculpture, WildFire, exhibited at the United Nations, as part of the International Year of Glass 2022. I am currently working on a Glass Tornado, and it will be the largest and most challenging sculpture I have ever made. This sculpture stands at nine feet tall, is going to be made of cast glass and metal. I'm traveling to The Studio at Corning, NY to ladle cast the sections, the armature is built, and I am making great progress. I have been swept up by this Tornado, mentally, physically and financially. Rarely do I ask for help, and only when I really need it. The funds will be used to help cast more of the glass sections, paint the armature, transport and install the sculpture for the exhibition. After this exhibition, I plan to travel the Tornado to other public venues such as museums. I create Public Art for the community at large to experience, and to raise awareness about the health of our environment. All contributions are helpful. Please feel free to share this fundraiser! Thank you for your support, believing in me and for making this Tornado a reality for all to see.

A compelling form of visual communication, art can transcend language and cultural barriers and has the capacity to reach people on a deeper level. My goal, as an artist, is to create sculptures that will have a lasting impact on the public. I aim to bring us, humans, back in touch with our environment by appreciating the inherent genius found in our natural world.
With the rising temperatures of our earth, wildfires and natural disasters have increased, glaciers are melting, and many animals are facing extinction. I am working on a series of sculptures about the effects of a warming planet on our environment. The Tornado is the most recent in this series. When warm, humid air from the earth rises and meets cooler air from above, the tension between the sky and the earth creates a spiral of powerful energy. This pressure is released in the form of a twister. Made up of 40 sections of cast atmospheric glass, the Tornado appears dynamic and weightless.
Glass is an important material in my work because it can be hot like fire, it can be cold like ice, atmospheric like air, and liquid like water. The glass both captures a moment in time and is alive with light. The luminosity, the way light pauses and changes direction inside the glass, draws the eye inside. It is the closest to nature I can get through art.
The natural world through its process of decay and destruction carves away what we humans build, so the earth can heal itself and restore harmony. What will it take for us to realize we are guests of the earth, not the owners of it? When will we be the Stewards of our Environment? When we are aware of what we are facing, we can choose positive changes to become more harmonious with the earth. I aim to expand the public's view of this global crisis by using sculpture to raise awareness and inspire positive actions.
