Hello, my name is Natalia Muñoz. I am a student at University of California, Davis, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Human Rights. Also one of the co-founders of the non-profit organization ucd sin fronteras. I’m a first-generation college student from South Central Los Angeles, and after everything I’ve been through, from being terrified moving 6 hours away from home.To my first year being on academic probation to being dismissed my sophomore year to taking classes at my local cc to readmit fall quarter. I've been through so many obstacles and setbacks. I am so close to graduating.
I am currently a junior, needing only 58 more units to finish my degree, and my goal is to graduate by Spring Quarter 2027. But right now, I’m already falling behind because my classes were dropped this Spring Quarter due to a financial aid hold. Right now, I am at risk of losing everything I’ve worked for.
Because of this situation, I am now responsible for paying my full spring tuition and upcoming summer classes out of pocket just to continue my education, something I simply cannot afford on my own.
I work full-time while my mom, a single parent, does everything she can to support me and my younger siblings. As the oldest of three, I carry the responsibility of helping my family and setting an example. Right now, my family is also facing a devastating situation my stepfather is in the process of being detained and sentenced. Trying to hold my family together from miles away while fighting to stay in school has been overwhelming.
The stress has begun to take a toll on my health, but I keep pushing because giving up is not an option. I didn’t come this far just to become another statistic. I came this far to graduate, to become a lawyer, and to give back to the community that raised me.
But I cannot do this alone anymore. This is urgent. Without immediate support, I may not be able to return to school or finish my degree on time.
If you can donate anything at all, it would make a direct impact on whether I can stay enrolled and reach my goal of graduating in 2027. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing my story. Your support in any form means more than you know.
I am so close to the finish line. Please help me get there.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
