Nasser lives in Ireland. Helena lives in Brazil. They first met online, and after 2 years finally met in person. It was love at first sight! Nasser proposed on May 13th 2025 and was welcomed into Helena’s family with open arms.
Nasser has survived persecution for who they are, moving out of the United Arab Emirates for a better life in Northern Ireland. After studying and later suffering abuse under companies refusing to sponsor him after months of work, he was forced to claim asylum to avoid deportation. Finally officially recognised as a refugee in February 2026, Helena went to visit again in May 2026 and tragedy struck on the 30th, the very last day of their time together. Nasser’s mother discovered that he is transgender, a secret Nasser has tried to hide because of his mother’s strict adherence to a rigid religious doctrine.
She has placed severe restrictions: limiting his travel only to and from work, tossed out many of his personal belongings and forced him to detransition. She has threatened to kick him out of the house should he break any of her rules. Despite being employed as a Care and Support worker/Healthcare assistant for elderly residents, the work hours are very limited and unpredictable due to being under a zero-hour contract. Regardless, he is forced to pay 200£ to sleep on the floor of an apartment by his transphobic mother and can’t afford to move out on his own.
Under this threat and these conditions, Nasser and Helena are asking for your help.
The money raised will help Nasser and Helena with:
• Transportation costs, travel to and from London’s Brazilian Consulate to acquire a VIVIS (tourist) visa, and the long flight to Brazil.
• Language lessons costs, so that Nasser may navigate Brazil without a big language barrier.
• Living expenses, until Nasser is able to find a job within the country.
Every share, every dollar you donate will be used to help reunite Nasser with Helena into safety and into a wedding both have long planned for. We thank you from the very bottom of our hearts.
