Hello everyone,
My name is Nashya Washington. I am 19 years old and from Chicago, Illinois. I am currently a student at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
I am creating this GoFundMe because I am facing an unexpected financial barrier that may prevent me from continuing my education. At this time, I owe the university and I must pay $10,000 in order to register for the upcoming term.
I have exhausted all available options. I have applied to multiple private student loans, reached out to university staff, and worked closely with the financial aid office. Unfortunately, none of these efforts have resulted in a solution. My mother is my only parent. She is low-income and has poor credit, which has caused her to be denied as a co-signer on every loan application. Without an approved co-signer, I am unable to secure private funding on my own.
This situation has been emotionally overwhelming. I have worked hard to pursue higher education because I want to create a better future for myself and my family. As the oldest daughter, I carry a deep desire to make my mother proud and to eventually give back to her for everything she has done for me. Right now, I feel like I am running out of options.
Any contribution no matter the amount or even sharing this fundraiser would mean more than I can express. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you are able to offer.
With gratitude,
Nashya
