Nary Baran, my partner of 18 years, is 48 years old and has shown incredible strength and resilience over the past year. In May 2025, he was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B cell lymphoma, a diagnosis that turned our world upside down. Nary was given just 10 months to live. Since then, Nary has bravely faced 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 3 rounds of immunotherapy, and most recently, intensive CAR-T cell therapy. Nary walked into the hospital for CAR-T cell therapy, full of hope, but now is unable to walk out—he is paralyzed from his belly button to his toes and requires round-the-clock care.
Nary’s journey has been filled with obstacles from a young age. At 18, he was first diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, which led to kidney failure. He received his first kidney transplant at 19 and has lived on immunosuppressive medication ever since. At 38, he experienced his second kidney failure, and in 2015, I was fortunate to be a match and donate my left kidney to him. Despite these hardships, Nary has always shown love, kindness, and warmth to everyone he meets. He’s always smiling through it all and is more worried about others than himself. He is truly the kindest person and deserves all the blessings that come his way.
The costs of caring for Nary have quickly become overwhelming. We need to make significant changes to our home to accommodate his wheelchair, including creating an accessible bathroom and toilet. In addition, we need specialized equipment and ongoing home care to ensure Nary’s comfort and safety. On top of these expenses, we are also facing mounting medical debt from his treatments, as well as the everyday living expenses and support that come with this new reality. We also have ongoing expenses for physical therapy, transportation, and assisted care, all of which are essential for Nary’s recovery and quality of life.
We really appreciate any help that you can provide. Your support will go a long way in helping Nary live as normal a life as possible after spending almost a year battling cancer. Thank you for considering supporting us during this difficult time.
