Help Naples Cat Alliance Build a New Home
We at the Naples Cat Alliance, firmly believe in Trap, Neuter and Return. Adopting our way out of cat overpopulation is not going to happen. We must stop the problem at its source, which is to spay and neuter the cats. TNR is great but the "R" part can be tricky. The "R" part is easy when you are returning an actual feral cat to a safe cat colony with a caretaker. One way the "R" becomes very difficult is when there isn't a colony or a caretaker, where you are returning the cat. Another is when people threaten to kill the cats if they are returned to the trapping site. Harder still is having no option but to release them into a busy parking lot or apartment complex or mall parking garage. We have never had the heart to send cats back to unknown situations. Regardless of how great the cat looked or well-fed, if there wasn't a colony feeder or safe place to return to, we kept them.
Our shelter was never meant to be a sanctuary. We only ever wanted to provide vetting and adoption opportunities for cats and kittens we rescued and of course TNR. We quickly found ourselves with more barn cats than barns and many cats found themselves permanent residents of our shelter.
Trying to find a place to put these not-so-adoptable cats became and still is a huge challenge. It turns out that there was no magical place for all these feral, shy, scared, semi-feral, unadoptable cats. We fantasized about having a beautiful outdoor facility for our residents. They need fresh air, they need to feel the sun on their faces and bake in the heat, like the tiny tigers that they are.
Finally our dreams have come true!!! We have a new 2 acre home, off of Immokalee Road, in Naples. It is just purrfect for our kitties, I'm so excited for them. There is an existing 1,000 square foot building with electric, air conditioning and plumbing. The property is fenced and most of it cleared, they left the perfect amount of trees.
We need your help in order to build out our dream home. What is needed immediately is a 10 x 10 shed, chain link fencing, pavers, pet screen, chicken wire and a small dumpster.
We are so excited and happy to fill a much needed void in our community, a safe place for our homeless community cats. We will still be holding adoptions, kittens and friendly cats are by-products of TNR. This property will not only be so fantastic for our cats but for also for our volunteers and fellow cat lovers. We will be open to the public for visits. Hanging out with cats in a beautiful, serene and peaceful environment is definitely good for the soul.
Thank you so much.
