Our family is asking for help during one of the most difficult seasons we have ever faced.

My mom, Nancy, is a loving mother, daughter, friend, and someone who has always been there for the people she loves. She lived in the United States for nearly 30 years, and for most of her life, the United States was the place she called home.

Recently, our family’s life changed almost overnight. My mom was detained by ICE when she attended one of her regular scheduled check-ins. She had continued attending her ICE check-ins and was doing what she was supposed to do when she was taken into custody.

After being held in ICE detention, my mom was deported to El Salvador.

After nearly three decades of building a life in the United States, raising her family, and caring for the people she loves, she has now been forced to leave behind almost everything she knew and begin again in a country she has not called home for nearly 30 years.

My mom is also the mother of a 4-year-old son who has gone with her to El Salvador. She also has a disabled mother in the United States who depended heavily on her care and support. Her sudden detention and deportation turned our entire family’s lives upside down, and we are doing everything we can to support everyone who depended on her while helping my mom and her young son build a new life in El Salvador.

Right now, they are essentially starting from the ground up. They need a safe and stable place to live, transportation, food, clothing, and the everyday necessities that most of us rarely have to think about. At the same time, our family continues to face legal expenses and other costs associated with her detention, deportation, travel, and transition.

We created this fundraiser to help with continued legal representation and related expenses, but most importantly, to give my mom and my little brother some stability as they begin rebuilding their lives in El Salvador. Donations will help with housing, food, transportation, basic necessities, and the many unexpected expenses that come with suddenly having to start over.

This has been an incredibly emotional and difficult time for our entire family. We wish more than anything that we could change what happened. Right now, all we can do is stand beside my mom, support the family who depends on her, and make sure she and my brother do not have to face this next chapter alone.

Anyone who knows my mom knows how much of her life she has spent caring for and helping the people around her. Now, during one of the hardest moments of her life, we are asking for help in doing the same for her.
