Hi, my name is John Hannington (Pops) and I am raising money for our family in support of my wife of 54 years, Nancy. Nancy and I met in high school and have been together ever since. We have a family of 3 grown children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. About 4 years ago, we noticed that Nancy seemed to have some dizziness and stability issues, and we spent the next 2 years seeking out answers as her symptoms grew worse. The normal medical institution failed to come up with any answers, and it wasn't until about 2 years ago that we found a neurologist who actually knew what was going on. He identified it as PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) and immediately sent us to a specialist at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN for specialized care. Over the past 2 years, we have learned that this condition is rare, fast, totally debilitating, and there is no treatment or cure. It's been a downward spiral since then.
Nancy's condition and care have taken their toll on our family. We have sold our home of 20 years and are using the proceeds, along with the sale of vehicles and anything else we can, to raise enough money to help with Nancy's care as well as build an ADA-compliant tiny house in our daughter and son-in-law's backyard where we can get family support and be close to our youngest grandchildren. The cost of this small new home is staggering, and although we are able to cover most of it, we are still coming up short, and our savings have been totally depleted. So, we are trying to raise enough money to finish the construction, build a nice garden in the backyard for Nancy, and maybe even refill some of our savings.
