Help Nancy Heal After Brain Aneurysm

On the morning of Monday April 28th, what was shaping up to be a beautiful spring morning turned out to be the worst day of our lives. Our wonderful mother, Nancy, suffered a spontaneously ruptured brain aneurysm that resulted in a significant brain bleed. She was quickly rushed into the operating room at DHMC and underwent open brain surgery to control the bleeding. Fortunately, the procedure went well, however she remains in critical condition. She has not been able to communicate with us, is only responsive to pain, and is requiring a ventilator to support her breathing. The long-term deficits are unknown, and as with any significant brain injury, it will require extensive care. If she survives this, she will require significant hospitalization and rehabilitation for many months to come.

For those who have been fortunate to know our mother, she is never the one to ask for help. In fact, even as her own children, trying to provide her support is significantly more difficult than pulling teeth. But, for once in her life, she is now desperate for help more than ever. She will likely be out of work for a very significant amount of time, if she is even able to work again. The bill, after insurance, from this hospitalization will likely be upwards in the tens of thousands of dollars.

You may know Nancy as a wonderful friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or mail carrier. We want our mother to focus on surviving and healing in the coming months, not about getting to work or finances.
