Hi friends,
I come to you with a mutual aid request for a dear friend whose hard times just won’t relent. Our goal is to raise funds to help get her into stable, permanent housing and ensure her basic needs are met until she can resume her normal work activity.
Over the course of about 7 months, Nancy suffered 3 major injuries that, as a massage therapist, prevented her from working for several cumulative months: a concussion, a hand injury that required 6 stitches, and a severe break in her left foot. Recovery from her broken foot has been particularly slow — her mobility is majorly affected, and even basic tasks are still exhausting.
On top of all this, Nancy is navigating (and being assessed for) some newer cognitive impairments that are making it incredibly difficult to manage everyday tasks, let alone this uncertain time. Nancy thankfully has medical coverage through the state's economic assistance program and has been working tirelessly to get access to any other possible state and county resource she's eligible for. Anyone who's navigated this world of dead ends knows how exhausting this work is.
When Nancy’s lease ended August 2024, she was too medically and financially vulnerable to find housing. Amazing friends rallied to help her pare down her belongings and move into my basement. While I’m grateful she’s had a roof over her head the past 4 months, due to some water damage issues that need repair, this is not an ideal or permanent living situation for her. She’s also been separated from her beloved cat Monkey all this time.
Today, I was able to help Nancy secure a month-to-month studio for January 15 and pay the downpayment. While this fundraiser won't fix all of the problems Nancy is navigating, it will help provide some much-needed autonomy and dignity.
Nancy has always been incredibly resourceful and has spent her entire life making cool things happen with very little besides love and DIY grit. She’s always been willing to share what little she has with anyone who needs it more than her — including me. During a particularly challenging time in my 20s, Nancy gave me a place to crash along with tons of love and support and was my first musical collaborator ❤️ Plus her 4 kiddos are family to me.
Helpers often have the hardest time accepting help when it's their turn, and Nancy is no exception. This is extremely hard for her, but she's agreed to let me create this fundraiser. Thank you sincerely for chipping in a few bucks if you have them to spare at this time, and also for sharing this fundraiser far and wide. It means the world to us.
