Please help my Aunt Nanci and her husband, Thomas Calderwood, find peace and stability after a year of unimaginable hardship.

Tom and Nanci have been unable to live in their beloved home since Hurricane Helene, which devastated parts of the Southeast in late September 2024. Their condo in Gulfport, Florida was among those severely impacted—and nearly a year later, there’s still no end in sight.

Despite applying for FEMA assistance, Nanci and Tom have received minimal assistance. Their condo remains under construction and they’ve drained most of their savings trying to survive—paying out of pocket for hotels, temporary housing, and basic living needs.

For the past several months, they were graciously offered a temporary stay in a nearby family members condo. But now the condo board has informed them that they’ve exceeded the 90-day limit outlined in the bylaws, and they’ve been given just 30 days to leave. Their options are painfully limited: either return to their under-construction condo with no air conditioning and unsafe living conditions, or start hotel-hopping again, unsure of what comes next.

To make matters worse, this past year has also brought heartbreaking personal losses—Nanci lost both her brother and sister—and they’ve battled serious health challenges and hospitalizations. The emotional and physical toll has been overwhelming.

Once they’re able to return to their condo, they’ll be starting from scratch. They need to replace everything: furniture, rugs, drapes—everything that made their home feel like home.

We’re raising funds to help ease this transition, provide them with safe shelter, and begin rebuilding their lives. Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward helping Nanci and Tom recover from this devastating storm and the year that followed.
